If you own, selling, or looking to buy a home built before 1978, you need to investigate possible lead-based paint contamination. Many houses and apartments built before this time have paint that contains lead. Lead from paint, chips and dust can pose serious health hazards if not taken care of properly.

This and more information can be found by calling the National Lead Information Clearinghouse at 1-800-424-LEAD or by visiting the EPA on the web.

You may also download a pamphlet here, that is published by the EPA, US Consumer Product Safety Comission and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. (This pamphlet is an Adobe Acrobat and requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here to download the Reader). This pamphlet is full of useful information on how to protect your family and home from lead.
