Each Halloween neighbors and their pumpkins line the Boylan Avenue bridge overlooking nearby downtown Raleigh. In December a juried Arts Walk brings together neighborhood and other artists displaying their works on the porches, in the living rooms, and along the winding tree-lined streets of this "hill-top" community.

Boylan Heights is and eclectic neighborhood with a strong sense of place. Development began in 1907 when Boylan Plantation was sold for a subdivision. Only three-minutes in a car from downtown, Boylan Heights is unique in location as it sits on a knoll overlooking downtown. You'll enjoy the diversity of interests and people that characterize this neighborhood.

Boylan Heights is both a National Register and local historic district. Properties within a National Register district that are deemed contributing historic structures may be eligible for State and Federal rehabilitation tax credits. The value of properties in a locally designated historic district is enhanced by the requirement that any exterior modifications must be approved by the Raleigh Historic Districts Commission.

Please contact me for the names of nearby neighbors who can describe community activities including an annual street party for graduating kids, numerous seasonal picnics and celebrations, baby sitting resources and much more. Check the neighborhood web site at www.boylanheights.net

Points of Interest in and near by Boylan Heights
Watch the sun set reflecting off the downtown skyline to the east and the railroad tracks running through the NC State campus to the west. The Triangle Transit rail line will run under this bridge to the downtown station just to the left of this picture. This neighborhood is sited on what was the plantation of William Montfort Boylan.  His residence was Montfort Hall, an antebellum mansion built in 1858 which is still part of the neighborhood.
The Ant Farm in Boylan Heights has been home to many artists whose work was recently the subject of a special show at the nearby NC State University Art Gallery. Pullen Park with its carousel and train is a short walk away, as is the Farmers' Market, Wiley Elementary School and much more.
The nearby Joel Lane House, built in 1760, is the oldest home in Raleigh and now a museum. Joel Lane was a prominent political figure in our state's history and Raleigh's beginnings. Museum Website
